Veera Komulainen has studied for two master's degrees, one from Singapore’s Raffles Design Institute and another from Lapland University of Arts. She has lived in Denmark, Singapore, Sweden, and Finland over the years and developed her artistic language while living among different cultures. Her practice includes various materials; concrete, metal, and wood. She paints with acrylic spray, oil pastels, and inks, on paper and canvas. She started her artistic career by making etchings and lithograph prints, with her debut solo exhibition in 2014.

'I have researched the theme of not belonging beyond borders for over 10 years, in my artistic work as well as in my Master's degrees. Currently, I work with themes of nature and belonging, roots and connection to the earth.  As an artist I am searching for a connection to the land, one’s roots, and a momentarily feeling of belonging. Metal as a material is my blood heritage, and as a daughter of a welder, it connects me back to my childhood. My visual language is mainly repetitive and feminine.'
